Performative Installation, 2011-2012
Exhibited at The Stone (curated by Laurie Anderson), Cameo Gallery, Shea Stadium, Zora Art Space, and 168 Gallery.
PRACTICE is an episodic performative installation investigating the connection between family mythology and identity. Khoshbin performs live and in video as a variety of characters ranging from her father—a Baha’i Iranian immigrant living in Texas, and mother—an Italian-American Baha’i convert, to a televangelist yoga teacher and self-help guru. Scripted directly from conversations with Khoshbin's parents about such topics as their first meeting and thoughts about the holidays, she reenacts these stories to explore how these narratives shape who we are.
